Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B-5) is a member of the B-complex vitamin family that is found as a component of coenzyme A in nearly every living cell (CoA). CoA is required for energy production from fat, carbohydrate, and protein. It is also required for the production of fats, cholesterol, neurotransmitters, red blood cells, and adrenal secretions in a variety of biosynthetic reactions. As a result, pantothenic acid is required for a variety of cell functions as well as the maintenance of normal cellular metabolism.
